In short, YES. It is worth it. It teaches the value of hard work and persistence. By preparing for JEE, you are putting sincere efforts, consistent hard work, taking regular examinations for a period of two years.
Lessons learnt
Even if circumstances are not favourable, you continue your preparation and this teaches you many things. This will provide you strength to face every situation in life and it gives you the motivation to keep doing your work as you have been in similar situations before. And you know you will get through it.
JEE preparation is NOT just securing a rank or boasting in front of relatives or seeing your name on the newspapers. It teaches value of hard work and persistence. These are the only two things needed to succeed in life. If you have come this far then its totally worth it and you should congratulate yourself for it.
However, it gets toxic if you attach yourselves only to the result, only thinking whether you will be selected to an IIT or not. Surely, you get a boost in your career by getting selected in a good college. But in the long run, the persons who succeed are the ones who have determination, faith in themselves. They do not wish to prove to the entire world but only to themselves.
What if I somehow fail?
Currently, many of the major innovators of the world are not even related to IITs. This stresses the fact that the mad rush of the students only to enter the IITs is not justified. There is no use in beating over this thought rather you should expand your view of the society. The IIT tag does help you for sure but in case it is not present then it is OKAY.
It is wrongly conceived in India that success is only academic in nature. This is however incorrect and in real world success involves lot of factors. It is interesting to observe that you cannot earn money only by studying, rather you have to pay for it such as tuition fees.
Getting a rank involves so many conditions, so if you have put honest efforts then it is not justified thinking over and over again whether it is worth it or not.
