BOOKS

There are many posts and blogs about books but only a few actually suggest books most of them just list the many many books and the students are confused. There are several types of students and each needs different set of books. Some start preparation from class 8, some from 9, and majority from class 11. I have written posts about different classes and subjects. The posts are precise and contain about only the useful books. So check them out according to which category you belong. • Books for class 8th   • Books for class 9th   • Books for class 10th   For those who are in class 11th or 12th, check out these. • Books for Physics • Books for Chemistry • Books for Mathematics Many posts on books coming soon  Check out the JEE and Productivity section for more... Comment down if you have any doubts...

Importance of well organised preparation plan

  1. Students begin preparation for JEE and other entrance examinations with a lot of enthusiasm but then they reduce within a few weeks. This occurs due to lack of a realistic plan. You should plan according to your current level so that the targets are achievable. 2. A structured approach to homework and solving problems is necessary so that you utilise the time available during the day. As a result, at the end of the day you would not feel that the entire day was wasted, resulting in very less preparation and problem solving. 3. Assess the type of student you are. If you cannot solve the basic questions which are directly based on formulae, then there is no meaning in going to the tougher questions. So first solve the easy questions. Then move on to the tougher questions in your coaching material. After that solve the questions of  previous year Main and Advanced Papers . Solving these questions is the real deal as it is an indicator if you crack the examination. 4. So solv...

Is JEE preparation worth it...

In short, YES. It is worth it. It teaches the value of hard work and persistence. By preparing for JEE, you are putting sincere efforts, consistent hard work, taking regular examinations for a period of two years. Lessons learnt Even if circumstances are not favourable, you continue your preparation and this teaches you many things. This will provide you strength to face every situation in life and it gives you the motivation to keep doing your work as you have been in similar situations before. And you know you will get through it. JEE preparation is NOT just securing a rank or boasting in front of relatives or seeing your name on the newspapers. It teaches value of hard work and persistence. These are the only two things needed to succeed in life. If you have come this far then its totally worth it and you should congratulate yourself for it. However, it gets toxic if you attach yourselves only to the result, only thinking whether you will be selected to an IIT or not. Surely, ...

How to study for long hours

You can cover a lot of your study material if you dedicate 10-12 hours per day. But you need to be really clear in your mind why do you want it as it is difficult to sustain this daily.  1 . Wake up early preferably by 7 am and get to your study table by 7:30 – 8 am. Study for 4 solid hours. Aim to cover the difficult portions in this time period specially topics which require memorising.  2. Take an hour’s break till 1 pm and have your lunch. Again study till 5 pm for 4 hours. Try to cover portions in this time where you need to work out problems, solve sums. You might feel sleepy but you know this can be done 3. Again an hour’s break and then sit back at 6pm for 3 hours. This should be routine as most of us are accustomed to study in the evening.  After 9-9:30 pm, all you need to do is relax and unwind yourself. Watch some good shows, movies, have dinner and have a solid 7 hours of sleep to get ready for the next day. If you can be consistent with the above routi...

Revision of class 11th in class 12th

Many of you had been asking me for a post on revision. Especially students of class 12. At this moment class 11 students don’t have much to revise, so this post is mainly for students of class 12. But I recommend everyone to read it(so that class 11 students can avoid common mistakes people usually commit). Many of you had been asking me for a post on revision. Especially students of class 12. At this moment class 11 students don’t have much to revise, so this post is mainly for students of class 12. But I recommend everyone to read it(so that class 11 students can avoid common mistakes people usually commit). So there would be two kinds of students- 1.  Who studied well in class 11  (i.e. all their concepts are clear, they didn’t leave many topics, practiced a lot, remember all formulae, equations, reactions, etc.) 2.  Those who didn’t study very well (i.e.  have many backlogs, have forgotten many  concepts, or don’t remember them very well, or just didn...

How to solve tough integration problems

Integration is crucial from the perspective of JEE, Boards as well as in Engineering. It has a wide range of applications in Physics, Mathematics and many other fields.  Hence it is quite important to understand the key concepts on Integration and then   memorizing the formulas for the purpose of the competitive examinations.   Students often blindly memorize the formula but later face difficulties in solving advanced or tricky questions. NCERT Mathematics DO NOT make the mistake of ignoring  NCERT Mathematics . Start with the theory of NCERT and understand the different theorems of integration along with their proofs. After covering this, you can move to solving the problems in NCERT. This practice would reinforce what you just learnt. It would take some time but it is very essential. Different types of Integration questions. An important part of preparation involves solving questions above your comfort level. This makes you ready for the examination irrespective of...

Tips for inorganic chemistry

This post is about inorganic chemistry, one of the least liked topic in JEE preparation. But finally, this is going to be the one subject which will fetch you marks most easily. Many people ignore inorganic chemistry and are at a loss. Inorganic chemistry questions can be solved with a tick and provide time for other questions. So, do this section well to Rock in JEE. You might find it boring, but that happens only when you are studying it for the first time. Once you study it well, you will answer questions with a tick, and that is clearly worth it. Mathematics and Physics are relatively tough. So score marks here and you can compensate for Maths and Physics. There are two sections in inorganic chemistry: the understanding part which includes periodic table, chemical bonding, coordination compounds, etc. and the learning based part like s block, p block, d block, qualitative analysis, etc.   The understanding part is more important from JEE point of view as more questio...

Guide for Mastering Organic chemistry

This post is about Organic Chemistry- one of the most interesting subjects in JEE syllabus. I never got bored in an Organic chemistry class- thanks to my wonderful teacher. Coming to the point, Organic Chemistry doesn’t involve much learning, and is mainly based on understanding concepts. Most questions would be easy to solve(except a few, which are always there in any paper) provided you have studied well. I’ll be telling you chapterwise syllabus and how to prepare for it. I would give you links to some books in the end, and you can buy the books without having to waste time on searching(I searched for the latest editions and put them here). Make good class notes. This is very important. Organic is best taught by a teacher. Remember all kinds of effects, their exceptions, their preference orders, etc. Making short notes turns out very useful later on. 1. Basics of Organic Chemistry This itself is a big topic. It involves topics like Nomenclature, Isomerism(stereo and structural)...

Master Electromagnetism For JEE

Hi guys, This post is intended for students in class 12 (but I highly recommend class 11 students to read it too, so that you have a guideline for the future). 1. Electrostatics, Coulomb’s Law, Potentials You must be thorough with vectors and mechanics. Click  here  to know more about Mechanics. If you are done then you won’t face many problems in Coulomb’s law. One section is done. Be very clear with the relation between V and E. Make sure you remember the formulae of V and E of various configurations with direction. 2. Gauss’ Law. This is really important. Practice a lot. And remember special results and derivations. Properties of conductors are important. Read theory from a good book like HC Verma. 3. Capacitors Be clear with series/parallel connections, charge transfer, etc. Electrostatics in matter is yet another important concept. a lot of questions are asked on free charge and all which confuse those who are not clear with them. Reading theory and solving a lot of probl...
